Exodus 14:1-3 NKJV — Now the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: “Speak to the children of Israel, that they turn and camp before Pi Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, opposite Baal Zephon; you shall camp before it by the sea. “For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, ‘They are bewildered by the land; the wilderness has closed them in.’
The children of Israel had come a long way. Egypt (the past) was behind them but the promised land (the future) was still out of reach. Their journey had brought them to the edge of the sea (the present) and the path to the other side where the dream of a better life seemed pretty grim. No boats, no bridges, no way to get across. The sea became their dead-end. It was time to step up. The Lord God had led them to this place, do they listen to Moses and put their faith in God or surrender to the past? The future of Israel stood in the balance. Can the same be said about our nation? As a people, we see the water before us and wonder, will the Lord meet us on the shoreline?
Exodus 14:9-10 NKJV — So the Egyptians pursued them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his army, and overtook them camping by the sea beside Pi Hahiroth, before Baal Zephon. And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them. So they were very afraid, and the children of Israel cried out to the LORD.
Boxed in and feeling trapped was not ideal and the children of Israel’s situation was getting desperate. Given the era that surrounds us today, it, at times, feels like the world’s “dhariots” are bearing down on us. The news media gives us the daily dose of our national “soap opera,” mayhem in our city streets, hatred directed toward our neighbors and there seems to be no solution. Our past overrunning the present. We catch a glimpse of the future, the economy is strong, employment is low and the light at the end of the tunnel is within reach but…how do we make it last?
Exodus 14:11-12 NKJV — Then they said to Moses, “Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt? “Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, ‘Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness.”
Our leaders, teachers and mentors promise the good life but only if we do it their way. God is taken out of the equation and the answers the so-called 1% give are never fulfilling. Another mass shooting in Jacksonville, Florida, North Korea playing the nuclear shell game again, National Anthem protest continue and now there is a report that a school in Atlanta, Georgia has changed the wording to the pledge of allegiance and are making their students pledge to the “Global Community.”
For some of the children of Israel being enslaved by the Egyptians was a better proposition than the certain death they faced under the wheels of the chariots. The problems we face today are dire but not impossible for our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ cannot solve. He stands on the shoreline just as Moses did and proclaims to His children to trust and believe in Him and He will deliver His people from the chaos they are mired in. Moses reminded the children of Israel how powerful their Lord God was.
Exodus 14:13-16 NKJV — And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. “The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” And the LORD said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward. “But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
The Lord God provided the path to salvation. The children of Israel continued their journey to the promised land. Jesus can do the same for you today. Tomorrow may be too late. If we call out and trust in Him we shall be saved. As we enter these uncertain “Last Days” we must turn from our sinful ways and follow the Lord as He navigates us through the trials and tribulations we will face during our journey to the promised land.
Exodus 14:30-31 NKJV — So the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. Thus Israel saw the great work which the LORD had done in Egypt; so the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD and His servant Moses.
