In Remembrance

James 4:14 NKJV — whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

The first light of the morning can be glorious as it was on that beautiful Tuesday morning. Life was on the move again, lights flashing, traffic flowing, children shuffling off to school and the world was getting on with the routine of the affairs of the day. In Manhattan that morning a video production crew was on assignment videotaping a construction crew involved in repair work for the city. An unusual sound came from above and the videographer responded by pointing the camera upward to witness and videotape the beginning of an event that the world and the United States would never forget.

Many have asked, “Why would someone do such a thing?” The answers given never quite made logical sense. The tragedies of September 11, 2001 were heartbreaking to watch. The actions of that day was the beginning of a wave of conflict and hatred that has consumed our country to this very day. Still the question of “why?” Went unanswered. Religious reasons were given but how could their “god” or “Allah” be so cruel? Religions differ in beliefs and the search for the truth can be very elusive. We as believers and followers of Jesus Christ pray for guidance and wisdom and through God’s Holy Word He provides an answer:

John 16:1-4 NKJV — “These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble. “They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. “And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me. “But these things I have told you, that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them. And these things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you.

We should always remember the brave souls that lost and sacrificed their lives so that others could live and carry on the memories of those we loved so dearly. Pearl Harbor and the bombing of the Oklahoma City Federal Building are just 2 events, that come to mind, that changed the fate of our nation and how we live our lives today.

17 years have passed and we still ask, “Why?” Envy, jealousy and hate can consume us if we give in to their power. We must put our trust in the one true God and His beloved Son Jesus Christ to guide us through these perilous times. Let us honor those we have lost and pray for their families and our nation. Let us pray for peace, grace and understanding for those who do not see us eye to eye.

If we learn nothing else from this tragedy, we learn that life is short and there is no time for hate.” —Sandy Dahl, wife of Flight 93 pilot Jason Dahl

“Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children.” —former President George W. Bush
