“I make my living off the evening news
Just give me something
Something I can use
People love it when you lose
They love dirty laundry.”

—-DANIEL KORTCHMAR, DON HENLEY

The 1982 hit song, “Dirty Laundry” performed by Eagles frontman Don Henley, was a satirical song about the TV news industry after an unfavorable news report about Henley had aired on a local TV news channel. In the years after the song’s release many insiders in the news industry have taken the song as a not so flattering “selfie” of what the TV News industry has become in our modern electronic age.

The out of control behavior by the co-anchor portrayed by actor Steve Carell in the movie, “Bruce Almighty” released by Universal Pictures, seems to be a reflection of what viewing audiences witnessed on November 7, 2018. Inside the White House at a press conference, being held by President Trump, a confrontation ensued between the President and CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta.

2 Timothy 3:2-4 NKJV — For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,Matthew 23:13 NKJV — “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

President Trump had been giving his response to the midterm elections, which saw  the Republican party lose control of the lower house of Congress but gain seats in the upper house. At one particular moment CNN’s Jim Acosta challenged the President about comments he had made about the migrating caravan of immigrants making their way to the United States. Like an episode of the “Jerry Springer Show,” Jim Acosta decided to openly debate the President in the hope that President Trump would respond with an off color remark. When the attempt failed and dismissed for another reporter’s question, Acosta refused to pass the microphone. President Trump told him repeatedly “that’s enough” and “put down the mic.

A female staff member attempted to take the microphone from the journalist, and Mr. Acosta resisted handing it over telling her at one point, “pardon me ma’am.” President Trump walked away from the podium and returned to say, “CNN should be ashamed of itself, having you working for them. You are a rude, terrible person.”

News oriented networks, news directors and producers will always encourage their field reporters to chase the story and ask the aggressive questions, even if they are uncomfortable, but the tradition is and always has been to never make the story about yourself. If that happens, then all objectivity is lost.

CNN and Jim Acosta’s actions may be misguided in this matter and it does put the media, as a whole, in a very bad position. His “Hard” pass may have been suspended but his press credentials are still his, which means, if he does any reporting on the President at the White House, he’ll have to do it from the outside instead of inside.

Being a journalist can be a noble and very rewarding profession but believing that the news and world events only happen because of you is a delusion many have made and careers have been cut short when the desire to be number one, sensational, over dramatic and not verifying all the facts to justify questionable behavior leads to damaging to one’s soul and self-esteem.

How God views our actions and how we treat others should always be our main concern. In life and in all careers challenges arrive that test our character and the Lord Jesus Christ is our strength and our guide for truth and wisdom. We must pray that those in the media will realize that they are in a unique position to see the world, report events and witness God’s plan and bible prophecy being fulfilled.
