A Dream Not Guaranteed

Exodus 3:7-8 NKJV — And the LORD said: “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows. “So, I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites

The end of another working day and now it’s time for the long drive home. It’s a routine we have grown accustomed to. Some days the drive home is uneventful but then there are days it feels as though home might as well be a million miles away. Cities such as Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Dallas experience a phenomenon called rush hour every day.

Home, a destination we all long for after a day of deadlines and commitments. A sanctuary of safety, security and peace. To be surrounded by the ones you love and the knowledge of being in a place where you are always welcomed and you never feel like a stranger. There is no place like home.

The Hebrews had prayed for deliverance from their captives and the time had come for God to lead them to a land of milk and honey. A home they could call their own. Recently, in our modern times, we have witness the exodus of immigrants migrating north to a land that promises freedom and an opportunity to live a long, productive life with dignity. It’s a dream many have had and many have achieved. A new beginning, a new life in the United States.

Through news reports we are informed that the oppression, tyranny and poverty are what the refugees of Guatemala and Honduras are leaving behind. The official reason for the relocation is asylum but recent reports state that this may not be the real reason. The price for moving the “caravan” north to the US is now into the millions of dollars and the question being asked is, “Who is fitting the cost?” The institutions supporting the migration are promising residency and eventual citizenship if the migrants can reach and cross the US southern border by any means possible even if it is illegal.

Matthew 23:15 NKJV — “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.

Utilizing legal loopholes and tax reduction incentives to entice desperate people to circumvent the law and join their affiliation to retain or acquire power and prestige is not the best way to invite people to the American landscape. Bribery and extortion are the paths that lead to human trafficking and slavery which, the latter, was abolished by the United States in 1865. Immigration to the US has always been encouraged but there is a process that must be followed. If these groups can afford paying the price for the “caravan,” then they should also be able to afford the legal expense for helping the immigrants enter the United States and find the home and sanctuary they are searching.

Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV — “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

People have been coming to America for decades looking for a better life. We must pray for wisdom and guidance to help and process the ones who desire a life of enrichment for them and their families. Jesus offers a life of rest and peace if we just turn to Him. Pray we can find a way to encourage all people to turn to God and also, we must remember that the Lord gave us this promise;

John 14:1-4 NKJV — “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. “And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
