Maybe I’m dating myself, well, yes I am but one of greatest love songs ever recorded was “Longer” by Dan Fogelberg. It may not be a song Millennials are familiar with but somehow the song has become a standard at most wedding receptions. A song about being in love and everlasting love. Expressing our love for someone in the form of a song is sentimental and also gives us the hope that the person we have feelings for will feel the same way about us.
On a day when we celebrate our love for our sweethearts, we search for the meaning of love in the Word of God. We all long for love and when we do find it, may it exhibit all the characteristics of the love God desires for us;
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NKJV — Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.
We should always remember that God gave us the perfect valentine;
John 3:16 NKJV — “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
On a day for flowers, chocolates and romantic dinners, I leave with the final verse of Dan Fogelberg’s song “Longer” for my special valentine;
