A Heighten Awareness

Even Captain James T. Kirk and the starship Enterprise had barriers. They may have found it at warp speed, there were barriers that they could not cross. “The Neutral Zone” between the Klingons and the Federation was the big one. Remember the “Kobayashi Maru?” Barriers, fences and walls. They existed in the sci-fi universe of “Star Trek,” it’s no surprise that the would exist in the world we live in today.

Do walls and barriers work or are they just a source for propaganda and fuel for the political pundits and their agenda? Walls can be useful or they can be a deterrent for those seeking freedom. The Berlin Wall was a clear example of a tyrannical government refusing to cater to the needs of the people. Because of jealousy and hatred, there are many in our current environment who believe that a wall on the U.S. southern border is immoral, when it really comes down to a matter of safety. Protecting the land has always been a top priority for leaders of nations and kingdoms. When Asa began his reign of the land of Judah, the safety of the people was at the utmost importance;

2 Chronicles 14:6-7 NKJV — And he built fortified cities in Judah, for the land had rest; he had no war in those years, because the LORD had given him rest. Therefore he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities and make walls around them, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us, because we have sought the LORD our God; we have sought Him, and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.

There were 10 years of peace as the people prospered. As we fast forward to 2019, the land of Judah, now known as Israel, has started a building program that many in the United States are watching very closely. Jeremiah 15:20 NKJV — And I will make you to this people a fortified bronze wall; And they will fight against you, But they shall not prevail against you; For I am with you to save you And deliver you,” says the LORD.

Israeli, Gaza Border Fence

In a continuing tradition that traces back to the times of King David and ancient Israel, a new barrier is under construction. Over the weekend of February 3, 2019, Israel’s Defense Ministry announced it has begun the final phase of construction of a galvanized steel barrier 20 feet high that will run the length of its frontier border with the Gaza Strip. The 20,000 ton barrier will extend for 40 miles along the Gaza border and have a “smart fence” that can detect Hamas attack tunnels underground. As reported by CBN News, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told journalists before the weekly cabinet meeting, “Over the weekend we began building the above-ground barrier along the Gaza border,” he continued that the barrier, “will prevent terrorists from Gaza from penetrating into our territory on the ground.” The wall resembles one along the Egyptian border, but more sophisticated. The project will be completed by the end of 2019 and will cost approximately $833 million.

Palestinians have gathered almost weekly for a year for protests that have often turned violent. Israel accuses Hamas of using the protests as cover to carry out violence, including killing two Israeli soldiers, launching rockets and arson balloons.

Ezekiel 38:7 NKJV — “Prepare yourself and be ready, you and all your companies that are gathered about you; and be a guard for them.

God has always instructed Israel to be prepared for the enemies that surround them. Since the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the reformation of Israel, which was in May 2018, tension has risen at the border of Gaza and Israel. The building of this border fence is an attempt to curb the violence and ease the tension. Only time will reveal the effect the border fence has. May we all pray that peace will come to the region but most of all that the will of God be fulfilled.

Psalm 122:6-9 NKJV — Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls,
Prosperity within your palaces.” For the sake of my brethren and companions,
I will now say, “Peace be within you.” Because of the house of the LORD our God
I will seek your good.
