To Be Or…

A famous quote used by many and applied to almost any situation. From the Super Bowl to the America’s Cup you can hear every coach quote the beginning part of the speech in the hope of winning the championship. It’s also a quote often used when wars are fought or in times of survival. Many times in lands, countries and territories leaders have proclaim their right to exist and as history has shown us many have failed in their quest. Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great and the Roman empire have all tried to answer the question of “ to be or not to be” and though their empires are gone, their place in history remains. 

Through history and extending through our modern age there is one country who struggles with the same question. In May of 1948 a nation was reborn but not without a lot of opposition. For 70 years this particular country has been a point of contention for many Muslim nations and in recent years the United Nations has joined in the disapproval of this country even though they were the organization who proposed the formation of the country of Israel. 

Many believe that Israel should be limited in its activities and should give up land to people who shows hatred and hostility towards Israel and create a Palestinian state. The problem they face is the land they are fighting over is a land God promised and gave to His chosen people. 

Deuteronomy 34:1-4 NKJV — Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is across from Jericho. And the LORD showed him all the land of Gilead as far as Dan, all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Western Sea, the South, and the plain of the Valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. Then the LORD said to him, “This is the land of which I swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross over there.”

The land given by God was defined clearly but the enemies of God and Israel didn’t and to this day don’t see it that way. With the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the relocation of the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem by the United States has solidified Israel’s position in the middle east and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that his country is more determined to stay. For the leaders and the people of Israel the answer to the question is quite clear. 

Surrounding countries which include Turkey, Syria, Iran and the Sudan along with Hamas and the Gaza strip have threatened to eliminate or wipe Israel off the map all because the Jewish state represents an oasis of freedom and hope in the middle of a land of failing ideologies. Jerusalem and Israel have managed to survive despite the apparent danger that surrounds them. 

Ezekiel 39:7 NKJV — “So I will make My holy name known in the midst of My people Israel, and I will not let them profane My holy name anymore. Then the nations shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.

God has been and always will be the protector of Israel and anyone who supports or become allies of Israel can only benefit and be blessed for choosing the side of righteousness. For those who oppose can only put their fate into their own hands and the outcome may not be pleasant. Consider the fate of Gog and Magog in a prophesied battle to come;

Ezekiel 39:11-12 NKJV — “It will come to pass in that day that I will give Gog a burial place there in Israel, the valley of those who pass by east of the sea; and it will obstruct travelers, because there they will bury Gog and all his multitude. Therefore they will call it the Valley of Hamon Gog. “For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them, in order to cleanse the land.

Recent elections may give hope for a chance of a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian state situation but the thought of a people who have shouted, “Death to Israel!” living in their backyard is not a good proposition for some Israeli leaders. 

1 Kings 8:56 NKJV — “Blessed be the LORD, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised. There has not failed one word of all His good promise, which He promised through His servant Moses.

A land given by God is a covenant that will never be broken. So the question, “To be or not to be” may be a question the enemies of Israel and God should be asking themselves. Disputes will continue over the borders and boundaries that define the land of Israel. We must gather together and pray for peace in the middle east and that God’s will shall be fulfilled so that what must be will be. 

Psalm 122:6 NKJV — Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you.
