Back in the distant past or is it the remote past? Oh well, back in the 1970’s, they used to be on every street corner. Carrying signs claiming that, “the end of the world was coming! Repent! Armageddon is upon us!” and “Jesus is coming back!” Gloom and Doom-ers predicting the end at any minute. With all the fanfare and “proof” they claimed they knew the exact time and yet, here we are in the year 2019. Even now, with more resources and the internet, yes, that includes social media, we have more people predicting the end. Here’s a quote from the new star of Congress Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez;

“Millennials and people, you know, Gen Z and all these folks that will come after us are looking up and we’re like: The world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change and your biggest issue is how are we gonna pay for it? This is the war — this is our World War II.”
Haven’t we heard this kind of prediction before? Let’s take a close look at some examples.
The Rapture in 1982:
In May 1980, televangelist and Christian Coalition founder Pat Robertson startled and alarmed many when, contrary to Mark 13: 31-33, he informed his “700 Club” TV show audiences around the world that he knew when the world would end. “I guarantee you by the end of 1982 there is going to be a judgment on the world,” Robertson said.
The 1982 Rapture didn’t happen.
MASS EXTINCTION BY 1995:
In 1970, Sen. Gaylord Nelson, D-Wisc., – often considered the “father of Earth Day” – cited the secretary of the Smithsonian, who “believes that in 25 years, somewhere between 75 and 80 percent of all the species of living animals will be extinct.”
That did not happen.
Nostradamus, August 1999:
The heavily obfuscated and meta-phorical writings of Michel de Nostrdame have intrigued people for over 400 years. His writings, the accuracy of which relies heavily upon very flexible interpretations, have been translated and re-translated in dozens of different versions. One of the most famous quatrains read, “The year 1999, seventh month / From the sky will come a great king of terror.” Many Nostradamus devotees grew concerned that this was the famed prognosticator’s vision of Armageddon.
Y2K, Jan. 1, 2000:
As the last century drew to a close, many people grew concerned that computers might bring about doomsday. The problem, first noted in the early 1970s, was that many computers would not be able to tell the difference between 2000 and 1900 dates. No one was really sure what that would do, but many suggested catastrophic problems ranging from vast blackouts to nuclear holocaust. Gun sales jumped and survivalists prepared to live in bunkers, but the new millennium began with only a few glitches.
Al Gore Says 10 Years Are Left In 2006:
In 2006, similar to Ocasio-Cortez’s prediction, while promoting his movie “An Inconvenient Truth”, Al Gore said that humanity had only 10 years left before the world would reach a point of no return.
Gore’s movie also featured animations of water inundating Manhattan, Southern California and Florida. Yet, Gore’s critics point out that just a few years later, he bought an 8 million dollar beach-front property near Los Angeles.
The Mayans Predict The End In 2012:
December 21, 2012, according to ancient Mayan calendar, was the day the world was coming to a catastrophic end. The day arrived and life went on. Hollywood movie producers adapted the prophecy into an entertaining action movie and was very successful.
Many believe that the Mayan prediction was a hundred (100) years early and the end should occur in 2112.
As of today, we are still here.

Many have and many will continue to predict or “prophecy” future events but if they refuse to pray and seek God’s guidance and wisdom their predictions will always be wrong. Al Gore, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the globalists can shout as loud as they can about the pending doom but they are only continuing the fervor the Gloom and Doom-ers began long ago. Spiritual awakenings can cause an explosion of predictions as was the case of Pat Robertson’s prediction in 1980. There was a great charismatic movement between 1972 to 1985 and many did believe that 1982 was the year for the rapture. God reminds us through His Holy Word;
1 Thessalonians 5:2-6 NKJV — For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
Matthew 24:42-44 NKJV — “Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. “But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
We must be ready for the Lord’s return. The Word of God tells us that Heaven and Earth will pass away but only God the Father knows the day and the hour. Pray that we will be ready;
Mark 13:33-37 NKJV — “Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. “It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. “Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming—in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning— “lest coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. “And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!”
