Fooling Themselves.

Matthew 16:24-27 NKJV — Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. “For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? “For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.

The universe…according to NASA, is a pretty big place. Filled with stars, galaxies, planets, comets and… Klingons? Well, if you look at a recent picture released by NASA it makes you wonder if Captain Kirk and the starship Enterprise has been on Mars already.

The logo of the “Federation of Planets” has been found on the surface of Mars but is it real? Is someone messing with us? Are aliens of the ancient kind trying to tells us that this is what lies in our future? Yes, here comes the answer that we hear on TV every Friday, “Ancient Alien theorists say yes,” and of course there are many who will believe it. They saw it on the internet so it must be real. Are we really that gullible? Look at some of the questions that barrage us every day. “Did we really go to the moon? Is the earth really flat? Who shot J.R.?” …mmm…Then there’s the big one, “Is Senator Palpatine a.k.a the Emperor from Star Wars still alive?”…Maybe? It’s so easy to believe any answer the world is willing to give. Maybe we should be asking, “Are we in control of our own destiny and if not, who? Is this a question of what we believe?
1 John 4:1 NKJV — Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Since we left our little blue marble to go to the moon we have had a greater obsession with the universe. Some believe that it has the power to direct our lives and can lead us to a higher plain of consciousness or existence. Consider theses two small examples;
From an interview with a Church ‘medium’ in Atlanta, Georgia:

“…all of our gifts are good and the universe is not going to be our moral compass for us to decide to use those gifts for good or for evil, you decide that,”

From an interview with a Hollywood Social Media Producer:

“…After dozens of resume submissions and applying for jobs I was overqualified for, I made a deal with the Universe. “If none of these work out, I’ll go all in. I’ll make my own thing.” And that’s what I did.”

In both instances they invoke the universe as some kind of cosmic force that they either have to contend with or put their faith in to get the results in life they are searching for. Where does the belief in the universe come from?
Pantheism is the belief that reality is identical with divinity or that all-things compose an all-encompassing, immanent god. Pantheist belief does not recognize a distinct personal anthropomorphic god and instead characterizes a broad range of doctrines differing in forms of relationships between reality and divinity. Pantheistic concepts date back thousands of years and pantheistic elements have been identified in various religious traditions. The term “pantheism” was coined by mathematician Joseph Raphson in 1697 and has since been used to describe the beliefs of a variety of people and organizations. So, according to this definition, if you want to believe in “The Force” then, by the way they see it, it’s okay.

“The Empire Strikes Back”

The people at Disney and LucasFilm might have a problem with it but don’t expect Darth Vader to be showing up at your front door anytime soon. Besides they are in a galaxy far, far away.

1 Timothy 4:1-3 NKJV — Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

Religions, doctrines and teachings that do not recognize God and Jesus as His only begotten Son and Saviour of the world are destined to fail and lead their followers to an end they did not foresee. In this troubled time it seems so easy to fall for an illusion. We see it in the news, movies and even behind the pulpit. Promising gold at the end of the rainbow but nothing is there. The so called “brass ring” has been stolen right from under us and we have no clue on how to get it back.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 NKJV — For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

Maybe going to Mars is the answer but wait! NASA says that they have discovered methane there. I guess when the cows jump over the moon they must land on Mars. This must mean that the “Green New Dealers” must come up with a “Save the Martian Climate” campaign. The Martians will just have to ship the cows back to Earth. If they did, would the tariffs be too high for interstellar trade?
John 3:18-21 NKJV — “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. “For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. “But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”

Unfortunately the universe does not have the answer for all of mankind’s problems but the Creator of the universe does and salvation is free to those who will accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. He paid the ultimate price on the cross for us so that we could have everlasting life as long as we put our trust and belief in Him. Don’t be taken in by the lies and false teachings that promise satisfaction for your life and eventually become empty and isolated. Pray that the Lord will continue to guide you and comfort you with His precious Holy Spirit. One last thing about the universe, the stars are beautiful when they come out at night.
