Matthew 12:25 NKJV — But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.
Exposing a problem isn’t the easiest thing to do. Motives are questioned and when the evidence is presented for all to see, the denials begin and the finger pointing starts. No one takes responsibility and if it is proven that the guilty party is found to be responsible, then the amnesia kicks in. How can a problem get so bad? What could we have done to avoid it? Are we a country fading away into the sunset?

We have seen cities like Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles disintegrating before our very eyes. Homelessness, unsanitary conditions, crime, hunger and in Los Angeles the reemergence of the black plague which was responsible for the deaths of almost 200 million people across Europe and Asia.The Plague took place from 1348 to 1351 and it was one of the worst epidemics in history. Many civil leaders believe that if the conditions don’t improve for the southern California city it could easily spread statewide.
Matthew 26:11 NKJV — “For you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always.
And now the focus is on Baltimore, Maryland. Inner city poverty, a broken and often ignored infrastructure, policies that do not support law and order with the appearance of corruption among city officials. Baltimore is not the first city to experience such obstacles.

Dallas, Tampa, Chicago and New York have all had problems. For some the problems are continuing. Vagrancy, racial unrest and lack of affordable housing are the major problems that cities around the country, as well as the world, face. Every fiscal year the U.S. Congress debates over the federal budget and when it’s approved Congress will allocate millions of dollars to aid and help major metropolitan areas with their infrastructure projects. Unfortunately we find corrupt politicians using this money as their own personal piggy bank. “Skimming off the top,” what the organized crime families considered a big no no and punishable by death, city officials and the members of Congress who represent them believe that they have the right to use the money any way they choose. The law does not apply to them.
2 Thessalonians 2:7 NKJV — For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.

For decades we have seen our nation’s pride dissolve in a pool of greed and selfishness. We can’t just sit behind the curtain of low unemployment, good and growing economy and energy independence when our fellow man is sleeping in the streets and our children are going hungry. If we continue to look the other way and let ungodly politicians and civil leaders steal and rob the country from it’s prosperity then the door will open to whom the Word of God calls, “The Lawless One;”

2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 NKJV — The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

The United States was founded with principles that benefit all citizens. Red, brown, black, yellow, white, male and females have an equal chance of a quality and a happy life. It may have taken a while to shake off the “original” sins that burdened this country at the beginning of its establishment but no matter how many steps forward the U.S. takes there are those that only care about their self preservation and will step on anyone to get to the top;
Psalm 10:2-4 NKJV — The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor;
Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised. For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire;
He blesses the greedy and renounces the LORD. The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God;
God is in none of his thoughts.

Cities such as Tampa, Indianapolis and Kansas City are doing well but could face the same fate as Baltimore. In the frenzy, unscrupulous behavior of unrighteous people, greed and the absolute defiance of the law could and probably will bring down the quality of life for those who really need help.
It’s easy to showcase a city. Lights, festivals placed in strategic areas to give a visitor the feeling that the city would be a great place to live, work and raise a family. City hall officials can always produce colorful brochures and a well edited video to highlight the city. The facade they show attracts businesses and bankers but they will never reveal the other side of the coin. The neglected and rundown neighborhoods with residents barely making ends meet. We are easily fooled by the lights of Las Vegas and Atlantic City in which the ugliness lives hand in hand with the glamour.
Luke 11:39-40 NKJV — Then the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees make the outside of the cup and dish clean, but your inward part is full of greed and wickedness. “Foolish ones! Did not He who made the outside make the inside also?
The question that Jesus raises is the same one we should be asking ourselves. The politicians that we elect and are responsible for the well being of our cities and communities are also responsible for the deplorable conditions within the city. The people need a solution.

The Democrats are having a hard time figuring out who did what and where 20, 30, 40 or 50 years ago let alone trying to find solutions for the people. President Trump is having a struggle getting domestic policies passed through Congress due to the animosity the democrats have toward him. The D.C. tug of war continues and a solution is still needed.
Proverbs 14:31-34 NKJV — He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker,
But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy. The wicked is banished in his wickedness,
But the righteous has a refuge in his death. Wisdom rests in the heart of him who has understanding,
But what is in the heart of fools is made known. Righteousness exalts a nation,
But sin is a reproach to any people.
We must seek the wisdom of God and pray that we find a solution to all inner city problems. Envy for power and the greed for riches is not Godly but we are faced with our country collapsing under the weight of disillusionment. Socialism, the “Green New Deal” and hatred are not the answer. If anything, they are not the values or ideas that our country was founded on.
Are we an endangered nation? How will history remember us? Will the history books read, “There Once was a Nation…” and end on a sad conclusion? A thousand years from now someone might take a walk on a beach and come across a ruin of a once proud “used to be.”
