Psalm 27:14 NKJV — Wait on the LORD;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the LORD!

“The heart wants what the heart wants.” We’ve all heard this at one time or another and being that the heart is the emotional and spiritual center of our lives, we can only imagine where our hearts may lead us. We are guided by the yearning to belong, needed and to be loved. When times are good we feel joy and the heart is strong with confidence but what happens when things go wrong? Where do we find the strength to go on? Who heals our broken heart?

Psalm 28:7 NKJV — The LORD is my strength and my shield;
My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore my heart greatly rejoices,
And with my song I will praise Him.

God wants us to follow Him with mind, body and soul and He wants to give you the desires of your heart. Walking in His footsteps can be a very blessed and rewarding life but it doesn’t mean that challenges will come to test your faith in God.

Psalm 31:24 NKJV — Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart,
All you who hope in the LORD.

Trials and troubles happen in everyone’s life. Losing a job, a game or even the car keys can be very stressful but usually, with patience and perseverance, a solution can be found and the car keys can be found in the last place you left them. Our hearts can surprise us with the amount of emotional pain we can take. If we trust in the Lord, our problems can be solved but when we lose a loved one or a relationship falls apart, how do we deal with a broken heart?

Psalm 34:17-19 NKJV — The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears,
And delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart,
And saves such as have a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
But the LORD delivers him out of them all.

The cliché, “what the head makes cloudy, the heart makes very clear,” can usually ring true but without the guidance of the Lord and the Holy Spirit, the heart can lead us to a place where we feel there is no hope and bitterness can settle in our lives. We say and do things we don’t mean and time passes with too many regrets.

Matthew 15:18 NKJV — “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.
.
We must pray and gather with those who will pray with us to ask God to give us the strength to get through the trials life hands to us. Broken hearts can be mended with the grace and compassion the Lord provides. A healthy heart does a body good but more importantly a heart devoted and dedicated to Jesus will lead to peace, love and everlasting life. Know that God is in control and that His love is never ending.
