Daniel 9:24-27 NKJV — “Seventy weeks are determined
For your people and for your holy city,
To finish the transgression,
To make an end of sins,
To make reconciliation for iniquity,
To bring in everlasting righteousness,
To seal up vision and prophecy,
And to anoint the Most Holy. “Know therefore and understand,
That from the going forth of the command
To restore and build Jerusalem
Until Messiah the Prince,
There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks;
The street shall be built again, and the wall,
Even in troublesome times. “And after the sixty-two weeks
Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself;
And the people of the prince who is to come
Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.
The end of it shall be with a flood,
And till the end of the war desolations are determined. Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate.”

An Agreement is Made
.
A prophecy was given to the prophet Daniel concerning events that will be taking place in the very near future. With the sudden fall of the world’s economic system and anarchy having a grip on the power and ruling dynamic, the world is ripe for someone to swoop in and seize control with a plan of his own. A plan, that for some, is too good to be true. .
This could very well be the scenario for such an event to take place. Could this really be possible? History reminds us that this could be. The Word of God and the prophecies within tell us that it is unavoidable.

Modern Day Warfare
.
We have witnessed wars, regime changes, famines and pandemics that have literally stopped the world dead in its tracks. Because of this, uneasiness, helplessness and fear has gripped a nation and a world so tight that it was waiting for an unwanted and an unlawful action to light the fuse of civil unrest and violent action against those in authority. Many believe that we are witnessing the beginning of the end of our society as we know it. Rome, Persia and the Soviet Union all collapsed due to the enemy hidden inside their empires. That enemy being themselves and the denial of Divine Providence.

What exactly was the message given to Daniel? What is the 70th week?

The Angel Gabriel Speaking to Daniel
.
The seventy weeks of Daniel, was a message delivered to Daniel from God, through the angel Gabriel. The message contained a blueprint for world events, revolving around Daniel’s people, the Jews, and his holy city, Jerusalem. Gabriel informs Daniel with the completion of the 490-years on his people and city (70 Weeks), the Messianic Age will have begun. However, before the Messianic Age, Messiah the prince will be killed or “cut off”. According to the qualifiers, specified by Gabriel, the Messiah is cut off on Passover in 33 A.D. This part of the prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus was crucified on Calvary just before Passover was celebrated. This also corresponds with the close of 69 weeks or 483 years, the measure of time between the command of the King of Persia, Artexerxes giving word to Nehemiah to rebuild the walls and gates of Jerusalem, to the crucifixion of Messiah the prince. Gabriel also informs Daniel that after the Messiah the prince is “cut off,” the Temple and Jerusalem would be destroyed by a group of people who are the descendents of the prince who is to come. This prophecy was fulfilled in 70 A.D. by the Roman Empire. It also links the future prince or ruler to the “Revised” Roman Empire.
The 69th week closes with the Messiah the prince being cut off, but the 70 weeks are not yet complete.

The crucifixion of the Messiah, stopped the prophetic clock before it was completed. There is one week or a seven-year period remaining. This seven-year period begins with the confirming of a covenant with many regarding a future Jewish Temple.

The agreement between the prince who is to come and Israel allows the Jewish Temple to be rebuilt. It is an important and significant part of the final seven days (years) of this period.

A Third Temple is Constructed
.
For this to happen we must assume that catastrophic and literally Earth changing events have happened.

In the book of Ezekiel, chapters 38 and 39, the prophet writes about a battle that will take place in the latter days between Israel, Gog and Magog. A battle that many bible scholars claim will take place before the beginning of the tribulation period and a battle where God will supernaturally intervene and defeat the enemy of Israel. A battle so devastating for the enemy, it will take seven months to bury the dead. This event could very well be the catalyst for a peace agreement between the “New World” leader and the Jewish people. The desire to regroup and restore order will be the premise for the action but the “honeymoon” will not last long. A new Temple will be completed and the rituals of daily sacrifice will commence within the Temple and outside the borders of Israel, a new economic system will be implemented and the nations following and, as the Word of God describes, worshipping the beast, plans will be made to eliminate Israel and the people of God.

A World in Crisis
.
Many would ask, “What of the United States? Aren’t they the strongest ally that Israel has?” In the current climate they are but a devastating war, another pandemic or a major collapse of law and order could change Israel’s and the world’s security in an instant. God can be the only one to provide this world direction through the landmines it has set for themselves. America and the rest of the G7 are not mentioned in the bible and the reason is so that God can be recognised as the leading authority on the fate of all nations. Through prayer and obedience to His commandments and His Holy Word can we delay the inevitable and have more time for the harvest of souls but we can never avoid the judgement that awaits us all.

In part 8 of our “Where Do We Stand?” series, we will take a look at the events that will be in place during the 70th week and also the action that leads to the final end of this future regime when it is taken.
