We always find ourselves thinking of the past. Memories that will follow us for the rest of our lives. We ask ourselves, “How did we get through it? So much has happened over the years, where did we find the strength to endure it all?” Accomplishments, failures, triumphs and defeats – all parts of the recipe we call life. We could write a book about it but would anyone believe it? It all depends on how someone interprets the events of your life. The experiences and lessons we have learned helped us to mature and gave us the ability to teach our children how to avoid the pitfalls and mistakes we have made. Along the way we gather our memories with pictures, selfies, video captures, diaries and journals. We look back and hope that we left a good impression on those we met. Our circle of friends becomes our own community. A history is built around us. The trials, heartbreaks and reckless behavior are documented by those who know you well but most of all, they choose to remember the good things in life. Winning a singing contest or helping others who are in need can bring notoriety. It may even lead some to pay honor to you by way of a plaque, trophy or a memorial in remembrance of your influence in their lives.

Those days were great times for all involved. You appreciate the love, kindness and yes, even the mercy for the missteps you may have taken. Grateful to the Lord that He was with you every step of the way. Preserving your history can be a challenging task. What if someone came along and wanted to rewrite your life? Did someone see your history in a different way? Your history must be rewritten to expose the wrongs of yesterday. The legacy that was cherished has disappeared with no one to defend it. If they say that the only easy day was yesterday, then why erase it?

A Revision of Yesterday
.
Today our society is on a crusade to rewrite the past. They believe that if the focus on history can highlight the sins of a nation then any achievement, progress and good that a nation or people do is null, void and irrelevant. To recognize the injustice of the past and to promise to never let it happen again is admirable but to ignore the unrighteousness in our own lives is equal to the hypocrisy of the sinful nature of the past.

James 1:19-20 NKJV — So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

Erasing History
.
Rich, poor, good and bad, they all came to the “New World” looking for a dream. Some came against their will and some were betrayed by their own countrymen for profit and security. Whatever the reason, there were many who felt that the human trafficking problem known as slavery was ungodly and contridicted the basic principle of freedom and justice for all. A constitution was written to reflect these values but it took time and a civil war to put a nation on the right path.

There are political factions who believe that the sins of the fathers should be the responsibility of the sons. The problem they can’t solve is how can this modern generation, black, red, brown, yellow or white be held responsible for a generation that is dead and gone? Laws and amendments were passed to give everyone a chance to achieve the American Dream. The founding fathers understood this and worked feverishly until their dying day to see this happen. Martin Luther King, Jr., Jackie Robinson and Thurgood Marshall understood this but many now have forgotten and have decided that their version of history is relevant and that reparations are required. Forgiveness is not in their vocabulary. The Word of God reminds us who is responsible for past sins.

Ezekiel 18:19-21 NKJV — “Yet you say, ‘Why should the son not bear the guilt of the father?’ Because the son has done what is lawful and right, and has kept all My statutes and observed them, he shall surely live. “The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself. “But if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die.

Fallen Heroes

We should never forget the ones who sacrificed and gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today. We must never forget where we came from and the forgiveness that Jesus gave us when we repented from our evil and wicked ways.

A Symbol of Hope

Matthew 6:34 NKJV — “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

There has been a call to tear down all images of Jesus. Far-left activist Shaun King demanded that all images depicting Jesus as a “white European” should be torn down because they are a form of “white supremacy.” King made his remarks over a series of Twitter posts. Claiming that the image of Jesus has “always been” a symbol of racism, clearly never understood who Jesus was and why He was crucified. Jesus died for Shaun King also, even if he doesn’t accept it. The hope for tomorrow and our future memories is Jesus. If we come to Jesus with a repentant heart and accept Him as our Lord and Saviour then peace and everlasting life awaits us. The past may not have been fair or pleasant but we must remember that Jesus died on the cross for the one race that matters, the human race. Our plight, our burdens were taken and placed upon Him on Calvary. Through Him there is true freedom. All colors of the Earth, black, brown, red, yellow and white, are all beautiful in this aqua blue planet God created for us all. Our tomorrows look brighter with the Lord watching over us.
