The Written Word.

2 Samuel 22:31 KJV — As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: He is a buckler to all them that trust in Him.

One of the most powerful ways to grow in our relationship with God is to read His Word. It is through His Word that God reveals Himself to us that we might know Him personally. The Scriptures grant us guidance on how to walk out this Christian life and provide comfort when we face times of sorrow. In addition to that, it is the very Word of God that protects us from evil.

Proverbs 16:20 KJV — He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.

The Word of God offers freedom, healing and hope. The direction and wisdom that the word of God provides helps many face issues or concerns that the Lord has addressed in the scriptures. For this reason, many make the effort in reading the Bible on a daily basis for inspiration and confidence. Many believers have testified that they are eager to open up the Word of God that is alive and active as Hebrews 4:12 tells us;

Hebrews 4:12 KJV — For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Translated in over 2000 languages, there are many versions of the Bible. So many to choose from how do we know which version to pick? Many “traditionalists” will tell you that the “Authorized King James Version” is the version to read since it was translated from the original Greek manuscripts and the Hebrew Old Testament text. There are 8,674 different Hebrew words in the Bible, 5,624 different Greek words, and 12,143 different English words in the King James Version.

If we break it down further we find that;

The number of books in the Bible: 66

Chapters: 1,189

Verses: 31,102

Words: 783,137

Letters: 3,116,480

Number of promises that are given in the Bible: 1,260

Commands: 6,468

Predictions: over 8,000

Fulfilled prophecy: 3,268 verses

Unfulfilled prophecy: 3,140 verses

Number of questions: 3,294

Longest name: Mahershalalhashbaz (Isaiah 8:1)

Longest verse: Esther 8:9 (78 words)

Shortest verse: John 11:35 (2 words: “Jesus wept”). This is in the King James Bible. Some Bibles might be Job 3:2 (Job said.), but King James has that as “Job answered” which is longer than “Jesus wept.”

With so much involved, where do we begin? To understand and to discover who Jesus is, the starting point for first time readers and for those who have turned their lives towards God, should be the Gospel According to John.

John 1:1-3 KJV — In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

The introduction into the Gospel of John is an invitation for the reader to keep reading and discover who exactly John is writing about. This book will give you a good understanding of who Jesus is and what His ministry is about. Although the other Gospel accounts (Matthew, Mark and Luke) also do this, the book of John particularly focuses on who Jesus is rather than just what He did.

Romans 1:1-4 KJV — Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

If you want a clear understanding of the Gospel. Then every Christian should read the book of Romans next. Many Bible scholars call this book, “The Bill of Rights” for Christians on how to live and act as a follower of Christ. The book of Romans also helps to build confidence in the faith Christians profess. Since the entire Bible points to the Good News of Jesus Christ, these two (2) books are certainly a good place to start.

2 Timothy 3:16 KJV — All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

There is nothing more inspiring than the written Word of God. All of mankind searches for truth, but according to the One and Only God, absolute and perfect truth is found in one place, His Word, which we all have easy access to via computer, our telephones, and bookstores. Let us fill ourselves with this truth. Let the Bible become your choice for confirmation from God on how to handle the trials and tribulations that happen in this life. Whatever version you choose to read, let it be a blessing to you and to your loved ones.

1 Peter 1:22-25 KJV — Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
