“I Once Was…”

Jesus Heals the Blind Man

John 9:1-7 NKJV — Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.

There are many things that we don’t see. Many more that we will never see. In most cases, it may not be our fault if we are unable to see or expect what may be coming around the corner. We are born into this world with sights and sounds included, but what if our sight was gone? There are many who teach that the reason a person is born with some type of disability is because of some kind of generational curse. The disciples, when asking Jesus about the man’s blindness, in the above passage, seem to imply a curse for the man’s condition. The answer Jesus gave was not as expected, John 9:3 NKJV — Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.” In the case of this blind man there had been no previous sin in his family. Through the healing, Jesus showed that when we put our trust and accept Him as Lord, the healing and deliverance He provides will break any curse or infirmity that has afflicted us and we can be set free.

Once you have become saved and born again no one can place a curse on you because you are a child of God and purchased by the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross at Calvary. With this being true, it does not mean that we cannot be deceived or tricked into believing a false teaching, hope or promise.

Matthew 24:4-5 NKJV — And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. “For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.

The world is being blindsided with troubling news, disturbing violence and glittering hopes that tickle the ears. How do we know that we are witnessing the truth? Jesus warned us that in these latter days there would be many from all walks of life that would deceive many. There would also be those that would come in the name of God and lead many away from God and in service of the Lord. The attack on Godly principles and the Christian faith is in full force and stronger than any other time in history. Because of this, we are experiencing what the Apostle Paul wrote about in 2nd Thessalonians and the deception that will take place to blind the followers of Christ.

2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 NKJV — Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

Falling away. The devil will use every tool in his arsenal to stop you from preaching the Word of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those who are lost and with little hope. Satan does not want the world to see the truth. To keep the world in the dark will help his plan to introduce the lawless one who will lead the world to ruin.

The Growing Storm

The storm of darkness that surrounds us has made people live in fear. Businesses have closed, livelihoods lost and our freedom to worship God is being threatened to be taken away. We really don’t know who to trust anymore. Who can lead us out of the darkness?

John 8:12 NKJV — Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

The Lord wants us to be aware of the happenings in this world and to be prepared for His return. Once our eyesight has returned and the darkness fades away, we will be operating in the light that Jesus provides, there will still be opposition to the truth and they will claim that you are wrong or a conspiracy theorist because there is no way God could have shown you what they had been doing in the darkness.

Your credibility will be challenged, but you will know and have the confidence that Jesus opened your eyes and revealed His everlasting love to you and you no longer live in fear. The blind man who was healed was questioned about his healing and his answer was simple, but true.

John 9:10-11 NKJV — Therefore they said to him, “How were your eyes opened?” He answered and said, “A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received sight.”

As witnesses and followers of Christ, we will be scrutinized and judged by our past lives before we were saved and born again. There are some groups that claim Christianity is a racist religion when really the true meaning of Christianity is a personal relationship with Jesus.

Do not live in fear. Let the Holy Spirit guide you to that place where Jesus provides rest and safety. He will bring the right people to help you and reassure you that God is in control. The computer, cell phone or social gathering apps are not the answer. Only the Lord has the remedy for any problem, sickness or sorrow you may have.

Deliverance from fear and anguish is within reach if we just pray and put our trust in Jesus. Seek first the Kingdom of God and you will have victory and see a path through the walls that the devil has placed around you. Be relentless in your faith and don’t let the rhetoric of the enemy distract you from the walk God has called you to.

Satan likes to appear as an angel of light and will place his agents in your path to tell you what you want to hear and blind you from the “Truth.” Pray and ask the Lord to give you the gift of discernment so that you may recognize the deceit and walk in righteousness.

Jesus Heals

For the first time in his life the blind man could see. It was a new world for him. The sights finally matched the sounds he had heard all his life. He did not know who Jesus was, but his life had been changed and now he believed. Let your eyes be opened to the light Jesus provides. The world may be in turmoil and chaos, but like the blind man testified,

John 9:25 NKJV — …One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.”
