What Do We Seek?

.

Matthew 6:24-33 NKJV — “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? “Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; “and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. “Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ “For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Séarching for…

.

What exactly are we looking for? There’s got to be an answer or a clue to help us find the right path? Some of us ransack our lives Just to find that elusive clue that gives us purpose and recognition. Nothing is left unturned. We spend the majority of our lives trying to find that dream of happiness and prosperity. Some are able to find it but is it really what they expected? When it comes to witnessing and ministering the Gospel of Jesus Christ we run into opposition and the devil tries his hardest to discredit and stop you. It’s an ongoing battle because souls are at stake.

The Beginning of a Career

.

Ephesians 6:12 NKJV — For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

.

When we are called to minister the Gospel we may not know in what capacity it might take. Some are called to be preachers, teachers or maybe just a cashier at a convenient store. Whatever the case may be, we must take advantage of any opportunity to share the Good News. The questions usually asked are, “Will I ever be recognized for what I do for God? Will anyone listen to what I have to say?” Both are very valid questions. Questions I had once asked myself when I was a young man.

.

From 1984 to 1987, I worked at a small Christian television station in the Dallas-Ft. Worth, Texas market. As a young producer/director I put in a lot of hours and tried to do my best because I knew God had opened a door for me to be a part of something special. I was honored to meet many prominent Christian leaders in the TV evangelistic field. I could drop a lot of names but I’ll save that for a book sometime in the future. The problem I had was that no matter how good my work was, someone else would get the credit. Later in my career I would find that this is a common occurrence in the television industry. It was very discouraging. I wanted to be recognized and rewarded for my ingenuity but it never happened. I learned an important lesson during those years. How to be humble and give thanks to the Lord for giving me the talent and the ability to be creative and produce programs that would reach the lost so that they may be saved. The devil wanted me to quit and walk away from my walk with Jesus but through the prayers, love and support of my family and my new wife, I found myself a new home.

.

A New Beginning in Florida

.

The Lord put me on a path I never dreamed possible. I found myself in Tampa, Florida working for one of the top TV news stations in the United States. Like a rocket, I found myself in a management position in charge of the video editing department. The Lord had given me the recognition I had been looking for. The years of hard work, prayer and seeking guidance through the Holy Spirit and His Holy Word gave me the reward only Jesus could provide. This would be the point where my wife and I went on to live happily ever after but not so fast.

.

In life things change and new challenges arise. This is true for everyone. With so much uncertainty in our society we have to shore up our faith with prayer and supplication. The Gospel may be widely available through the many electronic devices at our disposal but are the people being receptive? There are state governments who are passing executive orders to limit or ban church gatherings due to the fear of COVID-19 contamination. If we truly believe in the protection of Jesus and that through His stripes we are healed then church should be the safest place to be. We wrestle with an enemy that will stop at nothing to keep the Gospel from being preached. We must remember who we are when others try to ridicule us because of our calling and work for God.

.

Matthew 5:13-16 NKJV — “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. “Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

.

We must remember that there will be times when people will never know the countless hours, days or even years that you spend behind the scenes praying and witnessing for those who desperately need the rest and comfort that the salvation of the Lord brings.

.

This may be a time when the unrighteous will demand that you accept their definition of what matters but what they can’t seem to understand is that Jesus was crucified for them as well. The blood He shed on the cross at Calvary was for the redemption of all our souls. The Lord wants no one to be lost. In essence, every life matters to our Heavenly Father.

.

Luke 6:22-23 NKJV — Blessed are you when men hate you,

And when they exclude you,

And revile you, and cast out your name as evil,

For the Son of Man’s sake. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy!

For indeed your reward is great in heaven,

For in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.

.

Through the Darkness

.

You may be stuck in a thankless job. We must have faith and not be discouraged by the darkness that is surrounding our world today. If we work hard onto the Lord and seek first the Kingdom of God then no one will ever take away the reward in Heaven that awaits us.

.

John 3:16-17 NKJV — “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
