The Scar On The Heart.

.

Nowhere to Turn

.

Psalm 147:3 NKJV — He heals the brokenhearted

And binds up their wounds.

.

“Staring at the full moon from the bedroom window brought a sinking feeling to my heart. She was gone. How did it come to this?” The journal he kept was filled with the events of the prior six months leading up to the divorce. Mistakes had been made, feelings were torn apart and the trust was betrayed. For twenty years, eighteen being married, they had been inseparable. One precious daughter and a couple of pets. Sure there had been some challenging and trying times but somehow they made it through. The last few months were different. Something had gone wrong and now he was alone. They decided to part ways and let their differences become irreconcilable. Life had changed but the broken heart remained.

.

The Painful Memories

.

Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV — Trust in the LORD with all your heart,

And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him,

And He shall direct your paths.

.

“Time heals all wounds,” so the experts say. When it comes to a broken heart time may not be enough. Like the gentleman wrestling with the aftermath of a divorce, the sorrow can last years, decades or even the rest of their lives. It’s not easy to face the world in a time of sadness. Where do we go to ease the pain?

.

Searching for Divine Intervention

.

“No one understands. Everybody else has got someone, even my ex! Not me, they all moved on and now I’m in the rear view mirror, stuck in misery.” The feeling of isolation is overwhelming. There are many who experience this. A divorce is painful and confusing. The focus on life gets blurred. Faith gets tested even to the point of giving up and putting the blame for all your troubles on anyone else including God. But is that really where the blame belongs?

.

Bumper to Bumper

.

Nehemiah 8:10 NKJV — …Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

.

People live their lives like the silver ball in a pinball machine. Bouncing from bumper to bumper looking for that high score that will let everyone know they have won and mastered the game. Unfortunately, in every pinball game you eventually lose. It’s designed that way. The world is designed in a similar fashion. People go from job to job, city to city, church to church and yes, even marriage to marriage hoping the next one will be the one the dating app matches you up with. They never stop to ask God if these decisions are in accordance to His will. They, or should it be we, dive headfirst without checking if it is safe. Without making our request known to God and asking for guidance by the Holy Spirit we put ourselves at risk of being emotionally damaged.

.

“What do I do now?” A question we all ask ourselves when we suffer a sudden loss of something or someone dear to us. “How do I get the joy back into my life?” We can turn and put our trust in the Lord. Let us look at some passages from God’s Holy Word that ensure us that He is with us always even during our time of sorrow.

.

Psalm 34:18-19 NKJV — The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart,

And saves such as have a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous,

But the LORD delivers him out of them all.

.

Isaiah 41:10 NKJV — Fear not, for I am with you;

Be not dismayed, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you,

Yes, I will help you,

I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

.

Psalm 73:26 NKJV — My flesh and my heart fail;

But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

.

John 14:27 NKJV — “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

.

You Are Not Alone

.

The Lord wants to assure you that He is there for you in your time of need. In this current time of violence and pandemics it is easy to be dismayed and feel like there is no hope in sight. We have witnessed people make desperate decisions because of the isolation these events have caused. Businesses have been lost, jobs are gone, ministries closed and promises that were made are broken. Without God we can never find the peace we are looking for.

.

It may seem like you’re the only one going through the troubles you’re experiencing but you’re not. Many others have and many others will but Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever and that means that He can heal the scars of the past, heal the pain you’re feeling today and give you the joy of knowing that your tomorrows will be brighter with Him by your side.

.

Don’t let the enemy (the devil) lie to you and tell you that you are a failure because he or she found somebody else or you didn’t get the promotion at your job because you were not good enough. That is just not so.

.

Isaiah 54:17 NKJV — No weapon formed against you shall prosper,

And every tongue which rises against you in judgment

You shall condemn.

This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD,

And their righteousness is from Me,”

Says the LORD.

.

When someone suffers a heart attack and survives they will, what cardiologists call scarring of the heart, have a reminder of the attack and doctors will have the evidence they need to help treat the patient. The “scar” of a broken heart may never go away but if we turn to Jesus for comfort, emotional and spiritual healing then the “scar” on the heart can be a testimony of victory by the love and grace of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Be encouraged and have faith that Jesus will calm the troubled waters in your life.

.

Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV — “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
