COVID-19, most commonly known as the coronavirus, has now officially become a pandemic. Is this the beginning of the end? Are the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse on the loose or are they at the starting gate waiting for the sound of the starter’s gun? Sensationalism, panic and fear has grasped the Earth like a unlockable vice. The threat of the outbreak is real and should not be dismissed as insignificant as the common cold but to claim that the 4 horsemen are on the loose may be a little premature.

The coronavirus has infected more than 119,000 people and killed at least 4,284 since it first appeared in China last December. The virus appeared without warning and has never been seen in humans before, prompting conspiracy theorists to flood social media with bizarre claims about its origin. Even headlines like the following are adding fuel to the so called “fire” of fear;

Nostradamus 2020: Three prophecies of plague that eerily sound like coronavirus.

The prophecies make mention of pandemics affecting areas in Europe with vague references to locations in Italy where recently the country has put a mandatory lockdown to all citizens and tourists from leaving or entering its borders. Is there any reason to believe Nostradamus did indeed warn the world of a devastating pandemic? Nostradamus cryptic writings can be interpreted in many different ways and there have been many big epidemics since his death in 1566.

What about the claim of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse? A closer look is warranted since some doomsday religious sects are proclaiming that the tribulation period, the final 7 years also known as Daniel’s 70th week, has begun. The problem with their claims is timing. Is the time at hand? Let us look at the characteristics of each one of the horsemen and how they all play an important role in the End Times.

The White Horse
The first horse, a white one, seems bent on conquest;

Revelation 6:2 NKJV — And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.

The rider of the horse wears a crown and holds a bow. This horse is not the same horse that Jesus rides in Revelation 19;
.
However, others have said this is the antichrist. The antichrist does try to mimic works the Messiah can do such as miracles and he seems bent on conquering the world. This article aligns with the latter view.

The bow he carries can represent violence. After three and a half years of peace, he will wage war upon the saints;

Daniel 9:27 NKJV — Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,
Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the desolate.”

The Fiery Red Horse
The next horse, a fiery red one, takes peace from the Earth.

Revelation 6:4 NKJV — Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword.

He carries a large sword and blatantly represents war and violence. This makes sense to follow after the conquest-driven horse and rider. Conquest often leads to war. The antichrist will seek to wage physical war as well as spiritual war. Although many wars have ravaged the Earth’s history, none will quite wreak as much destruction as those that occur in the End Times.

The Black Horse
This rider carries a pair of scales in his hand and seems to refer to a famine that will wipe out wheat and barley supplies, and spare oil and wine reserves;

Revelation 6:5-6 NKJV — When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.”

Some Biblical scholars attribute this famine to the wars that occurred before it. Throughout history, those who tend to farm and contribute to food supplies yield such duties to fight in wars. Because of this, the food supplies suffer, and entire civilizations collapse.

The Pale Horse
Naturally when food supplies dwindle and wars break out, death follows. The pale horse has the power of famine, plague, and to kill by sword and by the wild beasts;

Revelation 6:8 NKJV — So I looked, and behold, a pale horse. And the name of him who sat on it was Death, and Hades followed with him. And power was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword, with hunger, with death, and by the beasts of the earth.

Sickness and famine often break out as a result of warfare, and this horse stands as no exception.

The Antichrist

Even though it is possible that the Antichrist may be alive and living among us, his rise to prominence and power has not occured. We must understand what Jesus spoke of in Matthew 24;

Matthew 24:6-8 NKJV — “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. “All these are the beginning of sorrows.

The Western Coast of Italy

No one can really understand what the country of Italy is going through but other nations worldwide are endangered of having the same problems if medical science is unable to find a solution. Prayer is greatly needed but we must also be diligent in our care for others as well as ourselves. This is not the end of the world and the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse are not reigning their terror on the Earth, at least not yet.

What we are experiencing is a precursor of things and a time that will be unlike we have never seen before. We must turn to God and His beloved Son, Jesus and encourage others to do the same if we all are able to be protected and healed from whatever ails us.

2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV — “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
