The breaking news banners come on the air and the anchor reports on another case of the coronavirus infecting a new region, a new country and more people. This health crisis, according to the news media, is completely out of control. Another trouble to add to all the other troubles we are facing in our world. Now, reports are beginning to surface that some religious groups are proclaiming that the final horseman of the four horsemen of the apocalypse has been released. Fear and panic is what they are causing with their interpretation of the scriptures. There is speculation that these doomsday groups might be a little ahead of themselves. We do live in perilous times but we must recognize the timing of events prophesied in the Word of God. Jesus spoke of what we would be experiencing in these latter days;

Luke 21:10-11 NKJV — Then He said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. “And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.

One of the key words we should focus on is the word, pestilences. AIDS, HIV, Ebola, SARS, the flu, the common cold and now, the coronavirus. These are one of the signs that the Lord spoke about yet, the world is not prepared to defend itself from the oncoming onslaught of a disease that is airborne.

The coronavirus has officially landed on the shores of the United States. In Fort Worth, Texas, medical and emergency staff at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, are being assigned to distribute protective masks to incoming visitors due to confirmed patients being quarantined and tested for the virus. 306,768 people in the US have tested positive for coronavirus, worldwide, the number of deaths has topped 64,384 with more than 1,193,776 people infected.

Several cruises have now been linked to patients who were later diagnosed with coronavirus. The Grand Princess cruise ship, carrying at least 21 people with coronavirus, is headed to the Port of Oakland, California, where it’s expected to dock, the captain told passengers. The 21 infected people include 19 crew members and two passengers but the number of onboard infections could rise, as not all 3,533 people on board have been tested. The ship has been in limbo since March 4, 2020, when officials learned a California man who traveled on the same ship last month later died of coronavirus.

Headlines such as this one are becoming commonplace around the world. As mentioned before, some religious sects are claiming the release of the final horseman of the apocalypse with no verifiable proof that the other three have made their appearance. According to Christian evangelist Michael Snyder, the coronavirus is one of 10 plagues currently haunting the Earth. The plagues are: armies of locusts, extremely bizarre weather patterns, unprecedented flooding, major earthquakes, unusual volcanic eruptions, the coronavirus, the African Swine Fever, the H1N1 Swine Flu, the H5N1 Bird Flu and the H5N8 Bird Flu.

In an article for Technical Politics, he wrote: “All of a sudden, really crazy things are starting to happen all over the world. Giant swarms of locusts are absolutely devastating entire regions, extremely unusual storms are confounding meteorologists, earthquake and volcanic activity are both on the rise, and five very dangerous diseases are sweeping across the globe. So far in 2020, it has just been one thing after another, and many are speculating about what could be ahead if events continue to escalate.” There is, however, no evidence to suggest any of these events are apocalyptic or prophetic in nature.

As mentioned, some have made claims that the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse have been released. The apocalypse is upon us and God’s judgement has come. Could this be true or are they getting ahead of themselves?

Revelation 6:1-2 NKJV — Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, “Come and see.” And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.

One of the more intriguing parts of the book of Revelation includes four figures riding horses. Much intrigue has built around these four characters featured in Revelation 6 that iconic art, books, and even movies (such as X-Men Apocalypse) have capitalized on these four horsemen of the apocalypse.

These four horsemen appear to symbolically portray four disastrous occurrences that will take place before the second coming of Jesus Christ. Historians have argued over whether these events have already happened or whether mankind has yet to experience them. But most evidence points to the fact these have yet to take place.

Whatever the onslaught of the coronavirus represents we must take the opportunity to educate ourselves about the virus and take the appropriate measures to protect ourselves from COVID-19.

Fear is not the message people should hear during a time of uncertainty while doctors work to find a vaccine to fight the coronavirus. Hope and reassurance is what the Gospel of Jesus Christ offers. Some detractors would ask, “How can this help?” – but they don’t realize that there is power in the preaching of the Word of God. Jesus demonstrated this when the Pharisees were questioning the validity of Jesus’ ministry;

Matthew 9:35 NKJV — Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

If we follow this example as we were commissioned by the Lord to do, the healings and protection from this disease would be extraordinary. Jesus gave us this reassurance if we turn to Him and put our faith, trust and guidance in the Holy Spirit and the peace the Lord provides;

John 14:12-16 NKJV — “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. “And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. “If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. “If you love Me, keep My commandments. “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—

We must continuously pray that the Lord will provide the wisdom and knowledge needed to find a vaccine and a cure for this virus and all diseases that threaten to shorten the lives of all in the world.
