*The Perilous Times is a periodical report on the trials and tribulations that the followers of Jesus Christ and ministries of the Gospel are experiencing around the world. We ask for prayer and God’s protection for those involved in our Lord’s Great Commission*

Matthew 24:9-10 NKJV — “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. “And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.
The words of Jesus have never been so apparent than what the island nation of Sri Lanka experienced on Easter Sunday. Terrorist bombings in several churches and hotels claimed over 350 lives. What began as a day of celebration for Christians became a day of chaos and terror. Information continues to emerge, while some basic questions remain unanswered. The most obvious question being asked is why did this happen but the other question that should be asked is why were Christians targeted?

The junior defense minister in Sri Lanka reported that many of the suicide bombers who killed more than 350 people in a series of coordinated Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka were highly educated and came from well-off families. The bombers were breakaway members of a pair of obscure extremist Muslim groups. Officials had earlier blamed one extremist group for the bombings, though they say the attackers may have had support from foreign militants.

While the authorities of Sri Lanka investigate and search for the perpetrators of this horrible tragedy, the question of why were Christians targeted is very simple. In a country that is primarily Hindu, Islam is becoming a growing influence in a region which includes the neighboring country of India. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the attacks but authorities remain unsure of their involvement, though many suspect experienced foreign militants were advising, funding or guiding the attackers. Officials say all of the seven main bombers were Sri Lankan.
2 Timothy 3:12-13 NKJV — Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.
Christianity is a threat to all the false religions of the world because it represents the truth of Jesus Christ. Not wanting the Truth of the Gospel has caused the reason for these latest attacks. There are some, especially in the U.S., who have tried to politicize the bombings by not acknowledging that the targets were Christians on Easter Sunday.
The country has been on heightened alert since the attacks, with police setting off a series of controlled explosions of suspicious objects. No more bombs were found the following Wednesday. We must pray that the violence will come to a stop but in an age of lawlessness it is hard to predict what extremist may do. Let us continue to pray for those who follow the call of the Lord’s great commission. We must take to heart the words of Jesus and also realize that the devil and the enemies of Christ fear this and know that their time is coming near to an end;
Matthew 24:12-14 NKJV — “And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. “But he who endures to the end shall be saved. “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
