Matthew 21:18-22 NKJV — Now in the morning, as He returned to the city, He was hungry. And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, “Let no fruit grow on you ever again.” Immediately the fig tree withered away. And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither away so soon?” So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. “And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
So many obstacles. So many tests. In our everyday lives we face so many challenges. We wonder how we get through it all. Does anyone understand what we’re going through? Deadlines, commitments, bills to pay and what do you get for dinner? Most of the time we can usually figure things out, but what do we do about the life changing world in front of us? Where do we turn when everything we hold so dear begins to crumble? As followers of Jesus there is one action we can take, especially, when the situation before us seems impossible. We pray.
Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV — Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Prayer is one of the most important things a Christian can do. During our time in prayer, we are communicating with God and it should be taken very seriously. While there is deep theological meaning in prayer, it doesn’t have to be something complicated and difficult. It’s something anyone can do anywhere at any time. God desires us to be in continuous prayer at all times.
Colossians 4:2 NKJV — Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving;
During these turbulent times our nation is facing, turning to God is the most prudent action Christians can take.
The seemingly never ending pandemic chaos, an overwhelming border crisis, racial tension, violent protests, natural disasters and international threats from the Far East and the Middle East are some of the major domestic and foreign affairs we should be praying about. These issues, as complicated as they are, can only be resolved if we turn back to God.
2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV — “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Taking the time to stop and pray can bring the changes we desire according to God’s will. Why is prayer so important? Many reasons can be given, but most of all, it builds our relationship with Jesus. Prayer can also help us overcome temptation from sin. Daily prayer strengthens our faith in God and encourages us to help others who are in search of God’s wisdom and guidance.
Prayer is a direct line between us and God. The Lord promised He would always be with us as we continue to witness and pray to Him, mighty things can be done. We must trust in Him because life can be hard and circumstances can be discouraging. Jesus is the light and hope for the world. Pray for our loved ones and be a witness to the Lord’s miracle of salvation.
John 14:12-18 NKJV — “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. “And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. “If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. “If you love Me, keep My commandments. “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— “the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. “I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
