2 Timothy 4:7 NKJV — I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
We come into this world surrounded by the ones who love us. We become accustomed to their smiles, affection and the everlasting impression they leave on our lives. Experiences are shared and with a few some become special and will always be cherished in our hearts. As time moves on, friends come and go, moving on to different paths and we pray that we will always stay in touch. In life we meet those that will always be with us. Spouses, parents, siblings and our best friends but how do we deal with our emotions when our loved ones have passed away?
God only knows the length of our days but it is also measured by the decisions we make. We pray that the Lord will bless the lives of our loved ones in our lives. In our walk the Lord desires us to witness to others about the Gospel.
Matthew 28:19 NKJV — “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Many do and for some of us there is that one special person that we love that changes our life forever. There was a young man who didn’t have much but as he grew, he fought for everything in life. He excelled in a profession that was very discriminatory towards minorities. Despite this, he gained recognition and was rewarded for his ingenuity. During this time he devoted his life to serving God and became an ordained minister. For the next 35 years he spent his time witnessing to people. Preaching, counseling, teaching and helping those in the ways of God. Many were touched by his ministry. Orphanages were blessed with toys for the children at Christmastime, youth were encouraged to become church leaders and TV ministries were advised and directed to become nationally recognized.
Through all this he still found time for his family. He lived his life knowing that time was short for mankind and that people needed salvation. His passion for God did not go unnoticed by his children and his wife. His eldest son followed in his footsteps in the profession he had left to serve the Lord. He was a loving husband, father, brother and trusted friend. He loved God with all his heart. He was my dad.
He passed away unexpectedly 12 years ago and it was hard for all of us to accept. The loss made me feel empty. I didn’t want to go back to work. Didn’t want to talk. How could I carry on? The world didn’t make sense. Being a TV producer/director was the furthest thing from my mind. Many questions were raised. A lot of others find themselves in the same dilemma. Seeking comfort becomes a task that seems impossible. For those who are hurting we must pray, counsel and comfort them. Allow the Holy Spirit to fill their hearts with hope and the peace of knowing that our loved ones are with God. It may take time for some but prayer and patience are needed in a time of mourning. It wasn’t easy for me but many good friends comforted me and prayed that I would find peace in my heart. For you my friend, I can only encourage you to stay strong and believe that Jesus is there to carry you when you feel you can’t walk another step.
God is with us always. Let Him give you rest and always be thankful for the special loved ones that are in your life.
Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV — “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
