A River Called Denial

A River Called Denial

Romans 14:11-12 KJV — For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

I knew I was better. There was no way my opponent could beat me. Potential scholarships were on the line. This was my shot at being recognized by top tennis programs at major universities. It was the 1983 spring district tennis tournament. Doubles hadn’t gone so well but in singles I had a hot streak going and I had made it to the quarterfinals. One more round and reps from Texas, SMU and Texas Tech would be there to evaluate potential recruits. I won the first set 6-0 and was ahead in the second 3-1, 30 love. My day had arrived, I was on my way and then the wheels fell off. 6-0, 5-7, 2-6. I was blindsided and just couldn’t believe the match was lost. I felt the agony of defeat and to this day the sting still remains.

My opponent out played me and overall it was a good competitive match. I moved on and the experience made me realize that when the next time arrives I’ll be ready to face the challenge. For some people it’s hard to accept defeat. It’s always someone else’s fault, people colluded to bring around your demise. “They” were supposed to bow down when you walked by but it never happened. Greatness was in the room but the lights might as well have been turned off.

Jeremiah 9:5 KJV — And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.

This brings us to the curious re-telling of the failed Hillary Clinton campaign by none other than Hillary Clinton. During a recent trip to India, Clinton told attendees at a conference in Mumbai that Americans did not “deserve” a Trump presidency, she claimed she won the states “that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward,” and said that Trump’s campaign was “looking backwards.” Clinton summed up Trump’s message as “you know, you didn’t like black people getting rights, you don’t like women, you know, getting jobs. You don’t want, you know, to see that Indian American succeeding more than you are.”

In response to the backlash of criticism she received, Clinton remarked that she meant no offense to anyone but still insisted that President Trump was not a friend to the American people. Clinton also stood by comments implying that white women who voted for Trump were subject to “a sort of ongoing pressure to vote the way that your husband, your boss, your son, whoever, believes you should.” Not willing to recognize the results that were given 18 months ago by the American voters, Clinton can’t seem to understand why Donald Trump won the election and believes that she was the true winner. Clinton along with Nancy Pelosi and the democrats claim the Trump presidency is illegitimate and have influenced the media and leftist groups with lies and misinformation to undermine the Trump Administration.

Living in denial and not accepting the truth can lead us to a path that takes us away from God. In the book of Revelation we are reminded that we all will be judged and the blame for our transgressions will be solely on our shoulders. Jesus is at the door of your heart waiting for you to let Him in.

Revelation 20:11-12 KJV — And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
